"Deer Management Qualifications (DMQ) exists to promote high standards in the humane management of wild deer. This objective is supported by the deer sector and is achieved by a system which gives candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills to a level of competence by means of a number of assessed criteria. These include; ecology, biology, marksmanship, law, safely and humanely culling deer, and dealing with carcasses hygienically"

Members of our team are approved witnesses's (AW's)

and have the necessary knowledge, experience and

enthusiasm to accompany candidates.

 

Individuals will be required to include evidence and

confirmation of a witnessed stalk for your portfolio

(previous requirement was three stalks).

​

This assessment evaluates performance criteria (PC's). During

the witnessed stalk an AW will observe the candidates

capability levels throughout.

 

  • Proper animal selection and identification

  • Use of correct protective measures

  • Humane killing of the selected animal

  • Gralloching the animal

  • Management of the animal as well as its gralloch

  • Offal and carcass inspection, including lymph node inspection for any diseases

  • Transporting the animal to the larder

  • Hygienically preparing it for the game dealer

We have access to a number of locations that could be attended, offering a variety of open hill and woodland. Alternatively your stalks could be witnessed in a chosen location that you have all applicable permissions and licencing's to use.
